The season will begin on November 17th and end on February 22nd. Coaches may begin practices with their teams 2 weeks in advance Team rosters and game schedules will be emailed to all coaches and rosters will be finalized by October 24th Practices days, times, and locations will be determined by the coach. Coaches will arrange practices outside of the YMCA, at local churches, schools, parks, or other community centers, if they choose. Final game schedules will be provided by the YMCA and games will be played on weeknights and weekends. Games will be scheduled across three primary locations: the Bill Bartley Family YMCA Gym, Isaiah 40:31 Gym, and the Downtown YMCA. Specific locations will be assigned by the Sports Department and included on your team’s schedule. You may list special requests during registration. While we do our best to honor requests, we cannot guarantee placement due to team balancing and coaching availability. Teams are formed by age group and, when possible, by school or ZIP code. Some coaches already have their teams formed, while others are looking to balance their rosters with new players from the Player Pool. For participants who register without a full team or coach, the Sports Department will place them into the Player Pool to be assigned to a team. The Player Pool is a group for participants who are not already placed on a team. If your child is placed in the Player Pool, the Sports Department will create a team from these participants and assign a coach. Parents who indicated interest in coaching during registration may be contacted to help lead the team, and we strongly encourage every team to have both a head coach and an assistant coach for support. All Player Pool teams will play in the Recreational Division. · The PLUS Division is a competitive league made up of coaches with already-formed teams. This division provides a higher level of play and will conclude with playoffs and a championship. · The Recreational Division is designed for skill-building and fun. Teams are created with a mix of Player Pool participants and returning players who want to continue learning the fundamentals of basketball. While the Recreational Division does not have playoffs or championships, it offers a full season of games focused on growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Yes. There will be two separate Coaches Meetings this season. · The New Coaches Meeting is for first-time coaches who are volunteering this season. At this meeting, they will receive training and guidance on their role as a coach, learn who to contact for uniforms, review YMCA policies, and gain an understanding of how the season is structured. · The Returning Coaches Meeting is designed for experienced coaches. This meeting will focus on updates to policies, season changes, and an open Q&A session. Meeting Dates: · New Coaches Meeting: September 24th at 6:30 p.m. · Returning Coaches Meeting: October 1st at 6:30 p.m. YMCA basketball is a volunteer-led program. Coaches are typically parents or community volunteers who have passed a background check and received training from YMCA staff. If you’re interested in coaching, please let us know—we always need great role models. To register as a coach, please register with the button below. PlayerSpace is our communication platform for schedules, team info, and updates. Once placed on a team, you'll receive login instructions to access your child’s team page. Our program emphasizes skill development and sportsmanship for all players. The PLUS Division is the only division that concludes with playoffs and a championship. Recreational divisions focus on learning, teamwork, and fun rather than postseason competitions. For details about your team’s games or practices, please reach out to your coach directly. If you have questions about finances or any additional concerns, you can also contact our Sports Hotline at 940-285-0000. We’re here to ensure your child has a positive and enjoyable experience. If your child is placed in the Player Pool, we will contact parents who answered “Yes” or “No” to the coaching question in the registration form and reach out about coaching opportunities. We also encourage every head coach to recruit an assistant coach to help ensure the team has consistent leadership and support. The Sports Department will also shoot an email about the current status of your team to let you know if there isn’t a coach assigned. When does the season start and end?
