The YMCA has served Wichita Falls and the surrounding communities since 1944 and is as committed today as it was then to enhancing the quality of life for people of all ages, background, nationalities and religions. For more than sixty years, thousands of children, adults and families have benefited spiritually, mentally and physically through local YMCA programs. Over that time, we have grown from a single downtown storefront to four branches serving the entire city. Every day, the YMCA provides care for over 400 children through our Early Childhood and After School programs. More than 3,500 boys and girls participate in youth sports activities, such as baseball, basketball, indoor soccer, gymnastics and swim lessons. Seniors and adults also improve their health and wellness through YMCA activities and classes designed especially for them. We are proud of our success over the years and are extremely grateful for the thousands of volunteers and contributions that made it possible. We are excited about the future as well, but also recognize that we must prepare now for the challenges we continue to face. In particular, there are three forces putting a strain on the YMCA’s efforts to provide services and programs: • Shrinking support from state and local funding sources is forcing the YMCA, like so many other nonprofits, to find alternate financial resources – or make do with less. • And perhaps the most critical challenge we face is the financial need that persists in our community. Just last year, the YMCA provided over $680,000 in financial assistance to youth and adults. This need will only increase as our economy faces weakness and uncertainty.
Proceeds from this campaign will help maintain the services, facilities, and staff that our community deserves from the YMCA. Proceeds from our annual Partners With Youth Campaign will continue to be specifically allocated to provide youth scholarships and subsidize youth programs. Please remember the YMCA as you plan your charitable giving this year. For more information about our campaign, or to donate, please contact Brandon Brown, CEO at 940-322-7816.
