About Us

Annual Campaign

At the YMCA, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to be a part of something great and develop to their fullest potential. We believe it is our responsibility to ensure that no child is ever denied access to programs because of the inability to pay. There are many children in our community that need your help. Last year the YMCA of Wichita Falls underwrote over $900,000 of youth services! Your financial support will enable us to make a positive difference in these children’s lives and in turn, strengthen the community.

Capital Campaign

Following Phase 1, the Final Phase will focus upon pairing community health needs with solutions and upgrading current facilities to meet membership needs. We will provide dedicated classroom space for ongoing health education and motivation. We look forward to collaborating with area health professionals. Branch renovations/updates include multiple health & wellness areas, Child Watch, locker rooms and the addition of a spacious new Grand Entry Plaza to replace the current undersized lobby built in 1982. The new entry will provide a welcoming community gathering space for members/guests and a safe place for all.

History

The Wichita Falls YMCA first opened its doors in 1944 in the middle of a strip of downtown businesses. The organization grew quickly and the historic four-story building that sits at the corner of 9th and Austin was built in 1948. For many decades the top two floors offered safe, affordable housing to tenants. Currently the building serves as home to corporate offices along with a complete workout facility and indoor swimming pool.

Volunteering

Across the United States, more than 500,000 business leaders, community advocates, parents, teens and individuals who want to give back and support their neighbors volunteer at the Y. That’s because in 10,000 neighborhoods nationwide we have the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but deliver positive, personal and social change.

With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, Y volunteers give men, women and children of all ages and from all walks of life the resources and support they need to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.
